Founded in the UK in 1971, Mulberry is known globally for its leather accessories and since inception, like many legacy brands we know and love, sustainability has only appeared on their radar recently. With this being said, we are seeing a sudden rise in brand accountability and luxury fashion designers such as Stella McCartney have long been leading the path to a more responsible fashion. Eco-friendly fashion takes on many facades, but labels like Stella McCartney set the bar high with using cruelty-free materials that are also ethically sourced.
As the entire fashion world looks to a more sustainable future, Mulberry has finally created a bag that is made through a completely sustainable process from start to finish. The Portobello Tote is not only locally-created in the United Kingdom at one of the brand’s factories in Somerset, but the factory also prides itself on being a carbon-neutral facility. The tote is made using gold standard leather that has been manufactured from by-products from the food industry. From here, the bag is stitched together carefully using Epic Eco Verde thread, which was created from recycled polyester. The bag currently comes in some of the more classic bag colors such as tan and black but also features more seasonal options such as their signature Mulberry green and a navy blue.
As if this wasn’t enough, Mulberry has also committed to donating 100% of the profits from the sales of the bags to World Land Trust, an international conservation charity.
