Sound familiar? We thought so, too! Twirl.store was started by a Kolkata woman who had a vision after she realized that she was succumbing consumerism on loads of e-commerce websites with sparkly offers for every occasion. Sujata Chatterjee, a 37-year-old entrepreneur, started Twirl.store in 2017 to create a more circular cycle of consumption.
Twirl.in relies on donations of old clothes and either upcycle the clothes into clothing and accessories or donates them to the less fortunate. In addition, Twirl is one of the first stores that has a clothing buyback program as well. If you no longer want an item that was purchased from them, the store will give you points to utilize for other items on their site. The also store offers points to those who donate their unwanted clothes, which they can then redeem for items on their online store. While Sujata is very clear that Twirl is a business and not a charity, this is a great example of how businesses can also promote sustainability and be more of a social enterprise.
