Being stylish this year is always a treat for yourself, giving you that instant boost with an outfit that’s chic and fashionable, creating that confidence and positive attitude within. Tons of trends are being promoted online and on various fashion magazines worldwide as we are nearing the dates of Fashion Week in New York, Milan, Paris and London. We at Seams for Dreams have scouted around the world and discovered the top sustainable fashion trends to share to all here.
Sustainable Fashion Trend 1: Steering Away from Fast Fashion
A lot of our beloved brands in fashion have always given us the latest collection daily, serving us fast fashion that creates that want and need for everyone to buy and just accumulate lots of pieces that in the end are not worn or are either stuck in the closet.
One sustainability trend that a lot of professionals and experts predict for 2017 is the notion that a growing number of people may revert to viewing clothes as an ‘investment’ instead of a weekly shopping trip. SFD hopes that this trend will stay and we will see majority of people worldwide investing in clothes and pieces made with love and care by various artisans and ethical fashion designers like Stella Mccartney.
Sustainable Fashion Trend 2: Recycling Fibers
The Worn Again Collection by Dana Cohen using Recycled Fibers
We featured Dana Cohen last year in one of our articles here in our SFD website who is one of the sustainable designers based in Israel who recycles fibers and we think that the processes that Cohen applies in her clothing production may just well be another growing trend in sustainability that we will see in a lot of collections in many fairs and expositions this year.
2017 may be the year in which a recycled-fiber developer produces and offers this technology as started by designers like Cohen. With the threats of deforestation and low water levels globally, recycled fiber technology would be a welcome treat for all of us.
Sustainable Fashion Trend 3: Usage of new materials
Organic cotton yarn is starting to be used my many designers worldwide
Another trend for sustainable fashion this year is the use of new materials and fabrics that are more friendly to the environment.
Cotton, as we all know is the most widely used material in creating our shirts, jeans, tops and skirts and the cotton industry is responsible for 16 percent of global insecticide releases. This is more than any other crop in the world and makes cotton one of the main polluters in the world. The usage of organic cotton without pesticides and grown naturally helps in lessening the harmful effects and we see a positive trend of designers using this and also other fabrics made with organic dyes and
organic wool.
Other textile manufacturers are also now using materials such as bamboo, corn, soy and wood pulp to create viable alternatives to cotton.
From investing in key fashion pieces made by artisans to recycling of fibers and using organic materials, we think that we are on the good path in 2017 with sustainable fashion being given importance in a fast-changing world. Seams for Dreams promotes sustainable and ethical fashion and we do hope that you can be one with us in protecting the environment through responsible styling and choice of your fashion pieces this 2017!
