Circular design was a buzzword in 2018 and we were thrilled to hear that Reliance Industries ‘Fashion for the Earth’, Lakme Fashion Week, and the UN in India created the Circular Design Challenge, which is aimed at spotlighting budding designers in the sustainable fashion space.
However, this isn’t aimed at all sustainable brands and requires that all designers create their label and collection from any and all sorts of waste, which of course includes plastic. The committee has selected 8 fashion entrepreneurs out of a lot of 900 applicants, including Doodlage by Kriti Tula, who is part of the SFD Board of Advisors, I Was A Sari by Poornima Pande & Stefano Funari, IRO IRO by Bhaavya Goenka, Lifaffa by Kanika Ahuja, Miesu by Seerat Virdi, Pozruh by Aiman Sabri, Saltpetre by Pooja Monga, and Bareek by Aman Singh.
The applicants will be coached through personality and presentation, after which a final round will determine the winner on the 31st of January. So, what will the winner be awarded? In addition to receiving 20 lakhs to develop their own innovative collection, the winner will also showcase their final work at Lakme Fashion Week’s Winter/Festive 2019.
This award is truly first of its kind in India and Seams For Dreams is excited that the work of so many talented, sustainable designers is being recognized and validated. Most importantly, congrats and best of luck to our very own Kriti Tula! Things are moving and shaking in a sustainable fashion and 2019 is going to be a year filled with lots of inspiration!
Keep Giving in Style!
