Fashion Revolution is a UK based organization that is a group of fashion professionals and influencers from all around the world who have the mission to revolutionize the way the world perceives fashion. The organisation is making headway in the fashion world internationally and advocates for transparency in the industry. During Lakme Fashion Week, Suki Dusanj-Lenz, the country coordinator for Fashion Revolution India, spoke about their goals for Fashion Revolution and told reporters that the organisation now has presence in 100 countries worldwide. Not only does the organisation aim to unite people in fashion on all fronts to give notice to things like environmental impact, but it also strives to completely change the way fashion is created, sourced, and produced.
While India is at the forefront of sustainable fashion and many designers have followed suit on this mission by creating clothes from organic materials and by actual weavers, there are still many brands and mass producers of clothing who still aren’t adhering to international standards. For instance, based on an article published in ETRetail, brands must start thinking about the safety of the people and the impact of the entire supply chain. There are still certain chemicals being used in clothes being manufactured in India that have been banned in many other countries in the world. This is where Dusanj-Lenz and Fashion Revolution want to start making waves and significant impact in the Indian fashion industry. Sure, there are a lot of new indie brands that are already embracing these changes and going sustainable, but there are still many improvements to be made in the existing fashion infrastructure.
At SFD, we always want to highlight those doing awesome work in the world of sustainability. Know of a designer, brand, or fashion influencer that’s doing their bit? Drop us a line!
