Indian American designer Premal Badiani is showcasing a new collection at New York Fashion Week on 8th September and her message is powerful. In an earlier collection called Root Cause, Badiani focused on sustainability and used eco-friendly fabrics in order to raise awareness on human impact on our environment and to propagate social accountability in the fashion world. In essence, her goal was to encourage people to go green.
Badiani’s upcoming collection will feature western pieces with Indian embroidery and her models walking the ramp for the show will all be breast cancer survivors. Badiani’s purpose was to uplift women who were fighters to feel beautiful and sensual in their own skin. This collection was inspired by these very women and promotes a healthy message of awareness for the psychological issues that women face with cancer. Her pieces will be brightly coloured and have lots of shades of pink that will raise awareness for the disease. In addition, the garments are made in India and Badiani continues to integrate her heritage in every piece.
Designers like Badiani are truly inspirational, and SFD is thrilled that Indian designers abroad are also following suit on the sustainable fashion movement. There are multiple ways to be a sustainable brand and utilizing the fashion platform to bring awareness to social issues that are affecting people worldwide is just another creative way that fashion is becoming more geared towards doing good. Kudos, Premal! We hope more desingers follow suit!
Keep Giving in Style!
