You’ve already committed to having a more sustainable closet and buying only things you need. But alongside sustainable fashion comes another responsibility that we have to ourselves and to our environment – to be mindful of what we use on our skin in terms of products. Here are our top five sustainable make-up and skincare brands that you can find online and in stores across India.
This brand prides itself on being India’s first truly organic make-up line. Ruby’s even has a list of the product ingredients on their website, making this an easy way to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction to any of their natural ingredients. While this growing brand is still adding to its line, you can still find lots of the essentials like concealer, eyeshadow, blush, lipstick and gloss, and eyeliner.
The Body Shop needs no introduction and since inception, the brand has taken a very vocal stance against animal testing. In more recent years, The Body Shop expanded its sustainability efforts with the ‘Enrich not Exploit’ campaign that aims to meet 14 sustainability targets by 2020. Big brands like The Body Shop set a great example for other beauty lines that aim to do good for our planet.
If you’re looking for a one-stop shop for Ayurvedic skin care and make-up, look no further than SoulTree, a Gurgaon-based brand that uses organic and ethically-sourced ingredients in their line. You will find just about everything you need – from skin care, hair care, bath care, make-up, and gift sets for your loved ones!
Chemical-free is the name of the game for this skincare and beauty brand that 100% naturally sourced. Not only is their face care to die for, but they also have products tailored to specific types of skin issues. On their website, you will also find beauty accessories like eyelashes, sponges, and brushes!
Started in SFD’s backyard in Bandra, this skincare and beauty brand is sustainably sourced, eco-friendly, cruelty-free, and organic! This brand carries bath time essentials such as soaps, oils, and scrubs, and even has a range of products for babies and men! What’s great about this brand is that everything is created in small, artisanal batches so the products are fresh.
Keep giving in style!

Hi just a small comment: eco friendly is not the same as “natural” or “organic”. Nowhere in the article is it mentioned if the companies follow anyway of sustainability. Do they take back the empty containers? Are the containers made out of biodegradable materials?
