WeDesign is a digital platform that features content focused around art and design and was co-founded by Simon Collins. Collins has just announced that this platform will now also host content that is centered around sustainable fashion. Not only will this content by widely and readily available, but it will quite literally be free for anyone that is interested in sustainable fashion from a general standpoint and also at a micro level. Similar to the content that WeDesign already hosts, this content will be contributed by designers, manufacturers, and academics. The best part about this platform is that it is completely free of cost and open to people from all over the world and at all levels.
In an article published by Forbes, Co-founder Collins says, “We will provide high-quality design education to everyone from pre-K to senior executive, for people following a design career and for those who are not. We will expand the online platform and enable everyone, everywhere, regardless of means, to study design to improve their lives.” In addition to the online content, WeDesign plans to open up design facilities and a state of the art school in China in the next three years. The online content, however, is funded by the Yue-Sai Kan China Beauty Charity Fund (CBCF) and the aim is to unite all the information out there onto one accessible platform for businesses, educators, and students in hopes to build a community and spread awareness in a way that is streamlined. This will also allow organizations to utilize a resource that is credible for information as opposed to conflicting reports. Of course, in fashion today, it is nearly impossible to be 100% sustainable, as expressed by Jasonpaul McCarthy who mentors many up and coming brands on sustainability, however, it is possible to educate small fashion businesses, labels, and start-ups about the impact that can be made for sustainability.
Keep giving in style!
