“Winter is coming”, these famous words spark fear in us; not only of white-walkers, but because of ice and deadly cold. This winter is more real to many than we would think. Every year, hundreds freeze to death in our own country. “Why?”, you must ask. We are living in a time of overflow and each of us hast more winter clothes in our wardrobes than we can wear.
This winter it is my appeal to all of us to spread a little warmth around India. Take out that old sweater you haven’t looked at in years, that worn out jacket from the back of your closet and that extra blanket dusting under the bed. Give it to someone in need.
Don’t close your eyes this winter when people down your road are freezing in the cold. Before they have to humiliate themselves by begging for help, step down and offer a hot meal or that extra blanket.
In India we are quick to call each other family, brother and sister, aunty and uncle, but how much do we really care about our fellow countrymen.
Charity starts in your heart. It sparks as a little hope to make a difference and becomes a beautiful fire when carried out. Good things don’t “just happen”, there is always someone who makes them happen. Be that someone! Not only will you see sad faces turning into smiles, but the love you give will delight in yourself too.
I am excited about this winter season! I am excited to see the wave of love and warmth that will start with you amazing people!
Love,
Evelyn
