On April 28th, Bangalore had a Clothes Swap event, which attracted shoppers and individuals that wished to refresh their wardrobes without having to buy new fashion. In the spirit of conservation and honouring Fashion Revolution Week, which is an annual event that includes the anniversary of the Rana Plaza tragedy that happened on 24th April, 2013, Global Fashion Exchange has put this event to encourage those to swap their clothes for new, pre-loved clothing instead of buying new pieces. Dhawal Mane, the first GFX ambassador from India, has been put in charge of organizing swaps all over India.
The Bangalore Clothes Swap had a successful footfall of over 60 people and attendees were instructed to bring in between 1 – 10 pieces of clothing to donate and/or swap.
In total, swappers left with around 150 articles of clothing total and the organization collected 110kgs in donations. Meera Agarwal, one of the happy swappers that attended the event, said “”My friend and I walked in with our reservations about picking pre-loved clothing but once we got in the swap, we had a splendid experience. We liked the vibe and the idea got us excited. It got us talking about fashion in ways we have never before. We browsed across the swap floor and picked 6 clothing items we loved to take home.
Although swapping is a new concept, Seams For Dreams hopes that concepts like this become a norm, as this is yet another way for consumers to do their part to help save the planet and decrease the detrimental effects of the fashion industry to the environment.
