Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week featured many looks and stories that we simply couldn’t get enough of. Each designer that displayed their work came with a purpose to propagate the message that sustainability is important and very much necessary to salvage India’s rich heritage and give back to our talented and skilled artisans. Day 2 was completely dedicated to sustainable fashion and here were some of our favourite shows!
- Northeast Mojo
The day kicked off with a show that was centred around fashion from the Northeast. Sonal Dubal showcased work from Assam, Daniel Syiem from Meghalaya, Richana Khumanthem from Manipur, Jenjum Gadi and Exotic Echo Society from Nagaland, Kuzu from Sikkim, and Aratrik Dev Varman from Tripura.
- Maku by Santanu Das
Santanu Das brought his heritage to life with his collection that used silk, cotton, khaki and jamdani from remote parts of Bengal. He also used natural indigo dye, which is his signature. The collection features grey, black, white, and indigo coloured pieces in a wide range of cuts.
- Pankaja Sethi and Odisha Weaves
In collaboration with Odisha Weaves, Pankaja Sethi created a tribal collection of sarees featuring beautiful drapes in earthy colours. We love that the collection was styled with lovely, statement jewellery!
- The Good Loom
This collection had both womenswear and menswear. For women, the collection showcased relaxed sarees paired with belts and shirt blouses. The menswear collection had brighter colours like light blue, green, mustard, purple, and salmon, and featured many layered styles.
- Padmaja
Dreamy and textured sarees made from organic cotton and linen were some of the highlights of Padmaja’s collection. Her collection was largely inspired by the art work of modern artists Nasreen Mohmadi and had asymmetrical pleats, folds, and embroidered buttons.
