On January 31st at the India Habitat Centre, the National Institute of Fashion and Technology in New Delhi will be holding and international conference that’s theme will be “Rediscovering Culture: Transforming Fashion”. This theme will be explored over the 3-day period and many activities are planned for the dynamic group of delegates. To kick off the conference, there will be a fashion show that will showcase NIFT alumni designs and another inaugural event that marks the launch of the Digital Crafts Bazaar at the Crafts Museum.
There are also some notable keynote speakers happening including Narendra Kumar, the Creative Head of Amazon and Kate Fletcher, Research Professor at the Centre for Sustainable Fashion at the London College of Fashion. The conference will focus on major topics in addition to fashion and also includes culture, textiles, crafts and sustainability. Delegates can anticipate many open discussions and forums on the landscape of the fashion industry today and how it is changing for the better.
Seams For Dreams is always thrilled to hear that more education efforts are being seen across India. India is very much at the premise of the sustainable fashion movement and best practices in this space can really help speed up efforts in changing the fashion industry. Artisans and craftsmen should be recognized for their work and major designers are now following suit. We can’t wait to see the outcomes of the conference and especially can’t wait for photos from Manish Arora’s interactive session about the label’s design journey. Stay tuned for more information!
