World Fair Trade Week 2017 came to end yesterday and was hosted in collaboration with World Fair Trade Organization and Fair Trade Forum India at the National Institute of Fashion and Technology, New Delhi. The event was a full week long from 8-15, November and featured a vibrant fashion show by The Fair Trade Forum that was centred on sustainable fashion called “Style Me Sustainable”. The show put an emphasis on the importance of wearing clothing that is made out of handicrafts and traditional weaves. The Fair Trade Forum was meant to encourage slow fashion and sustainability and the president even announced that they are launching an artisan movement.
While the show was a big part of the program, the conference had many other notable focuses, as all of the major players from the Fair Trade movement all gather under one roof. The event takes place every two years and people from every part of the Fair Trade supply chain are present, including manufacturers, wholesalers and major retailers. The program this year involved seminars, panel discussions and workshops on how Fair Trade plays a big part in sustainable development worldwide and how the goals are shaped for the entire initiative. Decision makers from all over the world also showcased the work happening in their own respective countries.
With more and more of these conferences and educational events occurring around the world, the message of the importance of sustainable development is widely spreading. Seams For Dreams is thrilled to hear about such events, especially those taking place in India. India is at the forefront of the movement and we are excited to be a part of it all!
Keep Giving In Style.
