Seams For Dreams wants to celebrate and recognize all the new efforts happening around the world to further the sustainable fashion movement. An eco-friendly designer and artist named Zuhal Kuvan-Mills from Green Embassy has organised the first ever International Fashion Week Australia. The cool thing about the event is that 84 countries will be represented and Hyderabad-based designer named Shravan Kumar will be representing India. Shravan was hand-picked out of many other Indian designers who submitted their story and designs to the committee.
What makes Kumar unique is that he has been working with artisans from Gujarat that specialize in Kalamkari weave, specifically a type of cloth called Mata Ni Pachedi. This technique happens to be endangered and the artisans working on this were not paid properly or did not have the means to continue working. This is what inspired Shravan to take this forward and help them restore this art form.
Shravan has even used jaggery and turmeric to naturally dye the cloth so that harmful chemicals are not involved anywhere in the process of creating the final garment.
The show is expected to happen later this month on the 23rd-27th November in Perth, Western Australia. We simply can’t wait to see what Shravan’s final collection looks like!
Keep Giving in Style!
