Hello fashionistas!
This week we have a very special Fashion Friday! The wonderful Neeta Lulla tells us all about her latest collection, what inspires her and why she supports Seams For Dreams! Read on here and become a part of our movement to give in style!
SFD: First of all, thank you for taking time out to inspire us today! Let’s start with your fabulous show at Lakme Fashion Week SS16. Please tell us a little about it.
NL: For the SS16 collection, I was inspired by the strength of a woman in various phases of her life. With this collection I’ve chosen to tell the multifaceted story of women as a flower, at Lakme Fashion Week.
The new collection #SheIsMe speaks to a woman’s ethereal beauty and gentleness, but also to an inherent tenacity in the face of abuse. The line uses androgynous silhouettes softened with lace and structured styles balanced with drapes showcase the contrasts of a woman’s character. In today’s world, women are stepping out and taking on what were stereotypically male roles, my clothes aim to provide her with a safe armor to represent her state of mind and confidently go on about her life playing the multitude of roles that she does.
SFD: What was your inspiration for this collection & your thought behind #SheIsMe?
NL: The Cherry Blossom, a symbol of feminine passion and power in the Chinese culture forms the central motif of the collection along with the Osmanthus, which is associated with a woman’s essence of love and sensuality.
The entire collection for me represents different characters of a woman, I see women as Mother Nature’s miracles who respond with the vibrancy of the cherry blossom and osmanthus to love and tender care; but just as easily as these delicate flowers dry away with neglect, a women’s spirit is broken down in the face emotional and physical abuse. With #Sheisme I wanted to raise a voice against this abuse and shed a light on the magnificent creation that a woman is.
SFD: At Seams For Dreams we use the universal love for fashion to give back to humanity by taking clothes donations to distribute your pre-loved items to the ones in need and raise funds for social projects at our Garage Sales. Your thoughts on fashion for a cause?
NL: I love the idea of donating and selling pre loved clothes, more so when it’s for a good cause. Our clothes help us define who we are to the outside world, as well as help us give confidence on a difficult day. I love the idea of passing them on and all the good memories to someone else so they can bring the same level of happiness to another. Supporting a good cause in addition to this process only adds to the charm.
We love a good-hearted designer like you who supports the people around her! We believe it is our responsibility to impact the lives of the people around us to the better. Your message for aspiring fashionistas?
NL: I just want to take this opportunity to tell all the young aspiring fashionistas to always stay true to themselves and their designs; stay humble and not forget to support the society and share some of the love they receive, to do good and pay it forward.
