With spring right around the corner, Seams For Dreams is gearing up for a busy month filled with donations and campaigns to spread awareness on reusing and re-wearing. As a Bollywood actor and someone who is called for public appearances quite often, it was regarded as an absolute no-no in the fashion industry to be seen twice in the same outfit. Celebs would even get trolled by blogs and news online for doing so. Now, with social media and fashion’s faster-changing trends, the pressure of flaunting new clothes has started to weigh heavy on every individual – celebrity or not. Suddenly, people from all walks of life have started to avoid posting pictures re-wearing the same ensemble, out of fear to get trolled in comments and their social circles. My love for second-hand clothing was one of the big motivations for me starting Seams For Dreams. Hand-me-downs and cool vintage fashion have been a part of our life for the past thousands of years, but somehow now it’s become looked down upon. I want to see everyone comfortable again when repeating their outfits, not just because it’s more environment-friendly to produce less and repeat more, but it also brings back the self-confidence and personal style that has gone missing. Propagating this message through the various awareness campaigns that SFD has, like #WearWashLoveRepeat, is something my team and I continue to work on, and we hope that all of you will join us to break the stigma put on pre-loved clothing!
Over the last two years, the #WearWashLoveRepeat campaign has been a huge success on Social Media and with the recent spottings of Hollywood and Bollywood trend-setters openly re-wearing their own gowns on the red carpets in the name of sustainability, we are excited to feature responsible fashion influencers more often! So while you’re spring cleaning this year, make sure that you begin to think about what you would like to re-style and re-wear, and of course, tag us on your social media to be featured on our stories with #WearWashLoveRepeat!
We’re very excited to announce that in the month of February, we were able to distribute over 900 pieces of clothing to our partner NGOs, thanks to your generous donations and the help of our new #SFDTruck! It’s amazing to see how this new structure of pick-ups and drop-offs has increased our efficiency and doubled the number of clothes received and lives impacted! My team and I look forward to creating a massive shift this year from your closets to people in need and to give your clothes a second life! Finally, Seams For Dreams is looking forward to more event collaborations with Bombay Closet Cleanse and other innovative entrepreneurs to help us raise funds to support our mission to give fashion a second life and clothe people in need across India. Our next pop-up is happening on Saturday and Sunday, 7-8th March, at Beg Borrow Steal in Bandra West! We hope to see you all celebrate your love for vintage fashion and help us raise funds!
